As a small sofa or banquette in a tight space. Add a few pillows and a bench can practically shape-shift into a sofa. Pile up the pillows (in different shades and patterns) to cozy up a low-back bench or simply push a bench against a wall to hold the pillows and voilà you’ve got a plush seat solution. Create a breakfast nook banquette a pit stop outside the bedroom a dreamy window seat. With a bench in your decor arsenal you’ve got so many options you might just need to take a seat and think about them all.
Bench as the anti-focal point. Similar to the previous picture two benches on either side of this table guarantee the attention is to what's outside the windows. These benches do a perfect job of "going away" — to be used only when needed.
When I think of benches at a dining table I am immediately brought back to Sunday afternoon picnics in the park. The bench however has come a long way and now plays an important part in the design of the eating area. Whether formal or informal bench seating typically allows more people to sit at a table (compared to one that just has chairs) and can bring important stylistic elements to the overall aesthetic of a dining area.
Outdoors. Why invest in purely outdoor-only seating when a multifunctional bench can work for you all year round? A foyer bench or sofa table for example can be slid outside in the warm weather and act as additional outdoor seating in a size that suits anything from a grand veranda to a compact condo balcony. Choose a bench in a pale wood to work anywhere or try a fun plastic pop of color for a summery attitude all year.
