Balancing out the style. Talk about high style. Two end chairs and two drum pendants in black seemingly steal the show. The whitewashed table and bench however add additional character in an unexpected way. The clean squared-off lines conflict perfectly (and balance beautifully) with the curviness and drama of the chairs and lights. Notice how the bench is the same width as the table. It's showing us that it means business in both form and function.
As a coffee table. A simple bench with no back or sides is versatile enough to transform from a piece of seating to a table and back. Use a bench as your coffee table in a small seating group and you can always move it off to one side as an extra seat for a few guests at a bigger get-together. Use a serving tray or a few inexpensive books to create a perfectly flat surface for resting a coffee cup or cocktail or a decorative box to stash the remotes.
As a small sofa or banquette in a tight space. Add a few pillows and a bench can practically shape-shift into a sofa. Pile up the pillows (in different shades and patterns) to cozy up a low-back bench or simply push a bench against a wall to hold the pillows and voilà you’ve got a plush seat solution. Create a breakfast nook banquette a pit stop outside the bedroom a dreamy window seat. With a bench in your decor arsenal you’ve got so many options you might just need to take a seat and think about them all.
Strengthening the overall design of a space. This kitchen and living space have strong horizontal lines running through them. Use of chairs would break that line and disrupt the intended flow through the space. In these rooms the bench becomes another important design element.
